How to disable individual AVG components

To disable specific AVG component please select it from the list of components below:
Detailed information about the real-time anti-virus protection secured by the Resident Shield component can be found in FAQ 4426. To disable the Anti-Virus, please:
- Open the AVG program
- Click the Anti-Virus icon
- Un-tick the option Enable Resident Shield
- Save the changes
Detailed information about the Identity Protection component can be found in FAQ 4492. To disable the Identity Protection, please:
- Open the AVG program
- Click the Identity Protection icon
- Un-tick the option Activate Identity Protection
- Save the changes
The Firewall component is designed to control and filter network traffic based on a set of rules. You might need to disable the Firewall while troubleshooting connection problems, or to install some network-related application. Please bear in mind that installation of some applications with function similar to that of AVG Firewall may result in conflict and malfunction of one or both programs/components. To disable the AVG Firewall, please:
- Open the AVG program
- Click the Firewall icon
- Select Firewall disabled
- Save the changes
The AVG Email Protection may affect your sending/receiving of e-mails, since it is designed to scan the messages and needs to access them in some way. The way of accessing the messages depends on your email client, but only the Personal Email Scanner plugin can interfere with the communication between your computer and the email server. To disable the Personal Email Scanner (if it is installed), please:
- Open the AVG program
- Click the E-mail Protection icon and click Advanced settings
- Expand E-mail Scanner - Servers - POP3, and click the POP3 server (usually AutoPOP3:10110)
- Un-tick the option Activate this server and use it for receiving e-mails
- Repeat the same for SMTP and IMAP servers
In some situations, you also might want to disable the Anti-Spam protection temporarily. To do so:
- Open the AVG program
- Click the E-mail Protection icon
- Un-tick the Enable Anti-Spam option
- Save changes
Detailed information about the LinkScanner component can be found in FAQ 4358 To disable the LinkScanner, please:
- Open the AVG program
- Click the LinkScanner icon
- Un-tick the option Enable Search Shield (needs web browser restart)
- Un-tick the option Enable Surf-Shield
- Un-tick the option Enable Online Shield
- Save the changes
