Message: "Database is outdated" in AVG

When AVG is not able to download new updates for a period of time, it will display a message "Database is outdated". Follow these steps to fix this:

Try to update your AVG

  1. Open your AVG program.
  2. Click Update now.

Check and fix your system date and time

If the system time is incorrect, AVG cannot recognize the update status correctly. Check your settings and set the correct time and date:

  • Windows 7, Windows Vista - click the clock in lower-right corner of your screen, click Change date and time settings -> Change date and time.
  • Windows XP - double-click the clock in the lower-right corner of your screen and check the settings.

Delete AVG temporary update files

  1. Open your AVG program.
  2. From the menu Options, select Advanced settings.
  3. In the left pane, navigate to Update, and expand that item.
  4. Click the Manage sub-item.
  5. In the right pane, click Delete temporary update files. Click Yes when prompted.
  6. Click OK and then attempt to update your AVG by clicking Update now.

Note: If AVG cannot be updated due to issues with the connection to our update servers (error "Connection with update server has failed"), please refer to FAQ 5232.
