Introduction

The AVG Download Manager is a simple tool that provides you with an easy way to manage AVG product downloads and installations. Based on your selections, the download manager will configure to the specific product, license type, and language. This help page will guide you through the product download and installation process.

The first step of the process is to determine your language of choice to use during the product download process. The initial dialog provides a means to select the language from a roll down menu; default language is English. Note that your language selection applies only to the download process using the AVG Download Manager; the product installation process will provide you with the opportunity to change the language later on. You will also have an opportunity to change your language settings once the AVG product is installed, depending on your product and installed components.

After selecting your preferred language, proceed to the next step of the download manager by clicking on the Next button.

Connectivity Check

In this step the AVG Download Manager will attempt to establish an Internet connection so that updates can be located. You will not be allowed to advance the download process until the download manager is able to complete the connectivity test. At the completion of the test, the text of the dialog will change to reflect the results of the test.

If the test is successful then you will be taken to the next step of the download manager, which will be the selection of the license type.

If the results of the test show no connectivity, then you will see appropriate message. In this case you should check, if you are really connected to the Internet and click Retry button. If you are using a Proxy connection to the Internet, click the Proxy Settings button to specify your Proxy information.

Proxy Settings

If you have clicked the Proxy Settings button on the previous Connectivity Check screen you will see a dialog that will allow you to specify your proxy information.

In the Proxy server address text field, enter a valid proxy server name or IP address, and in the Port text field, the port number.

If the specified proxy server requires authentication, check the Use proxy authentication box. Next choose Authentication type using the roll-down menu. We strongly recommend to keep the “Any” option, which is set by default (the proxy server will then automatically convey its requirements to you). However, if you are a skilled user, you can also choose Basic (required by some servers) or NTLM (required by all ISA Servers) option. Then enter a valid Username. Optionally, you can also enter a Password.

Confirm your settings by pressing the Next button.

Downloading

After you have made all selections, the AVG Download Manager will begin the process of downloading the correct installation package based on your choices. The dialog provides you with a representation of the download progress, as well as the means to pause and resume the file download. Pressing the Pause button will temporarily stop the download at the point at which the button was clicked. Pressing the Resume button will resume the download from the exact point at which the download was paused.

Once the product download is complete, the AVG download Manager will initiate the launch of the installer of the selected product and then exit. The individual product installer will guide you through the product installation process.

A confirmation screen will appear as your download nears completion. This is to let you know that the installation process is about to begin.

Troubleshooting

In some situations the AVG Download Manager will encounter a general issue during the download process. In these cases you will see an error message similar to that shown here.

Clicking Retry will begin the product download process again. Clicking Cancel will close the AVG Download Manager.
