FAQ

If you have obtained a license for one of the AVG 8.5 products and there is AVG Free 8.x installed on your computer at the moment, please proceed as follows to install your new AVG edition in place of AVG Free 8.x:

1. Download the latest AVG 8.5 installation file:
   
   • Choose your edition:

     (AVG Anti-Virus 8.5)
     http://www.avg.com/download?prd=ais
     (AVG Internet Security 8.5)
     http://www.avg.com/download?prd=avf
     (AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall 8.5)
   • Click on Download AVG now.
   • When you are prompted, please do not open this file directly from the Internet, but click the Save button and choose a location, where the installation file should be stored (we recommend saving the file to the Desktop).
2. Close all running applications and uninstall the AVG Free 8.x:
   • Double-click on the downloaded installation package.
   • In the third step of the installation process, please select the option Uninstall product.
   • Finish the uninstallation.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Run the installation file again and install the new AVG 8.5 version:
   • Follow the installation wizard to install the new AVG 8.5.
   • Enter your AVG License Number when asked. We recommend using the copy and paste method when filling in the license number.
   • Finish the installation and restart your computer if needed.

Please note that the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition has the following limitations: 

• Provides only basic anti-virus, anti-spyware and LinkScanner protection. 
• Has no technical support! 
• Does not include a firewall, anti-spam, and anti-rootkit feature. 
• Does not include HTTP Scanner and Instant Messaging Protection. 
• Cannot be installed on server operating systems (such as Windows Server 2003). 
• According to our license policy, it is prohibited to install and use AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition in a network environment. 
• Scheduling options are very limited (only one scheduled update per day, one scheduled scan per day etc.). 
• Does not have guaranteed access to high-speed servers for downloading updates and program upgrades. 
• Does not offer advanced testing options, such as password-protected archives reporting, adjustment of scan process priority and many others.

• Free program upgrades and definition database updates for the full license duration.
• Multiple language support - English, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portugese, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish, are supported at the moment; additional languages are under development.

The AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition is licensed for personal, home use on a single computer. According to the AVG Anti-Virus Free License Policy and License Agreement, the following are strictly prohibited: 

• Professional or commercial use (including non-profit organizations). 
• Installation and use on more than one computer per user (single user). 
• Installation and use in network environments.

If you use AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, please note that e-mail technical support is not available.

AVG LinkScanner® is a free product that provides protection against websites that are designed to install malware into your computer via the web browser or its plugins. The LinkScanner supports MS Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, and consists of two components, Search-Shield and Active Surf-Shield.

If you wish to download the AVG LinkScanner®, please go to the AVG Free website download section.

As a free product there is no technical support related to the AVG LinkScanner®. In case of any issues, please refer to the AVG Free website Help section.

To install your purchased AVG product, follow the steps below:

1. Uninstall the AVG LinkScanner®:
   Open Start -> Programs -> AVG LinkScanner® -> Uninstall AVG LinkScanner®. - In the third step of the installation process, please select the option Uninstall product and finish the uninstallation. 
2. Restart the computer. 
3. Download the latest AVG 8.5 installation file our website.
4. When prompted, do not open this file directly from the Internet, but click the Save button and choose a location, where the installation file should be stored. We recommend saving the file to the Desktop. 
5. Please check whether you are logged under an account with administrative rights. For more details, please visit this FAQ 1196.
6. Run the installation file by double clicking on it.
7. Follow the installation wizard. 
8. Enter your AVG License Number when asked. We recommend that you use copy&paste method to enter the AVG License Number into the installation. 
9. Finish the installation. 
10. Update AVG and restart your computer if needed.
