AVG Technologies Makes Key Staffing Investments
Security software provider adds professionals with proven records of accelerating business to usher the company into its next phase of growth
Amsterdam, September 10, 2009– AVG Technologies, developers of the world’s most popular free anti-virus software, today announced the addition of key executives to its sales team, as part of its effort to expand the AVG organization and bring it to new and emerging markets. In spite of a flagging economy, AVG has continued to grow and expand this past year at record pace, and adding these seasoned players are significant steps to help AVG succeed in its next phase of growth.
Key to this strategy is the appointment of Charles Damerell, who had been working with AVG for more than six months as a sales consultant, to the role of AVG senior vice president of worldwide sales. Damerell has twenty years of deep expertise leading sales forces and delivering ambitious results from companies such as Lucent, T-Mobile UK, Cable & Wireless, and Pitney Bowes, UK and DSGI, one of the largest electronic retailers in Europe, to the AVG team. “This is a very exciting time to be a part of AVG,” said Damerell. “Our company stands on the brink of breaking out of the emerging category and truly moving into a role of industry leader. There is a tremendous opportunity here to broaden AVG’s reach and customer footprint on a global basis.”
AVG CEO, JR Smith said the company is investing in Damerell because of his “proven track record in leading and delivering outstanding sales results for organizations across varied and multiple sales channels. “Charles has led companies with aggressive growth strategies including turn-around, new acquisition and start-up situations,” said Smith. “I will be working closely with Charles over the coming months to support the ongoing development of the team and performance in order to drive the global presence we want and need to have moving forward.”
AVG also announced the appointment of Michael Conner as vice president, North American sales and operations. Conner brings to AVG a wealth of sales acumen and knowledge from brand-name security and software companies, including Symantec, Trend Micro, Webroot, Brightmail, Borland, and Sony. He will leverage his ability to rapidly grow revenues at companies such as Webroot, where as senior vice president of worldwide sales, he helped boost sales by more than 50 percent, and Symantec, where he was responsible for total business unit sales of more than $280 million.
“I see AVG as a diamond in the rough,” said Conner. “I have been aware of their presence for many years, but now the company is really on the cusp of massive adoption and global brand name status. Perhaps more than any other security software company I have seen, there is a golden opportunity for us to exponentially grow business as AVG’s value continues to spread worldwide.”
