AVG and Origin Technologies partner to offer innovative pay-per-month software solution

UK, London (8 June, 2009) – Global Internet security company AVG Technologies has partnered with streamed media solutions provider, Origin Technology, to provide consumers with an innovative pay-per-month software rental solution called Software Monthly.

The solution, which will be offered via the website Softwaremonthly.com and in selected Maplin stores across the UK, offers customers who take out a contract the ability to have all their software – including Microsoft Office 2007 Standard, AVG 8.5 Internet Security Suite and O2 Mobile Internet Broadband on a monthly basis – ready to run on a high quality HP 2133 laptop.

Mike Foreman, MD for AVG UK says: “We see this as the future of software purchase and, as highlighted by the popularity of the iTunes store, there seems to be a real shift towards rental and pay-per-use models of consumption. We believe the Software Monthly solution will especially appeal to consumers who are looking for the flexibility of a software rental option without sacrificing the quality of product and service.”

The initial package costs just £19.99 per month over a 24 month period and includes Microsoft Office 2007 Standard and also AVG 8.5 Internet Security Suite, which defends against viruses, spyware, worms, hackers, botnets, poisoned web pages, Trojans, spam, and other cyber threats with a full arsenal of digital weaponry, giving the customer functionality with peace of mind.

While the offering will initially be offered to Maplin customers who take out a contract on a laptop in-store, the Software Monthly offering can also be purchased on softwaremonthly.com and via IT247.com from June.

David Anderson for Origin Technologies says: “We saw great synergy between our vision for Software Monthly and AVG’s focus on providing new and practical ways for consumers to benefit from an effective Internet security solution. Through our partnership we are confident that Software Monthly customers will benefit from the very best product and service solution.”
