The AVG DataCenter can be moved to a different server according to the instructions below. Server name OLD used in this example is the current server with AVG DataCenter, server NEW is the server to which is the DataCenter moved.

  1. On the OLD server, please open AVG Admin Console and from menu DataCenter select Database export
    • the information about the export will be displayed in the Status Window panel (if it is hidden in your AVG Admin Console, you can display it in menu View - Panels)
    • the export will be stored in folder
      c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\avg8\Admin Server Data\DatabaseBackup\
    • copy the export to the NEW server
  2. On the NEW server, install AVG 8.5 Remote Administration
    • in the AVG Admin Server Deployment Wizard, please choose the option to import database, and provide path to the previously created database backup
    • if you wish to use the same AVG Admin Server configuration as on the OLD server (i.e. database connection, update mirroring), you do not need to configure it manually. Once you go through the basic configuration using AVG Admin Server Deployment Wizard, please copy the file
      c:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8 Admin\Server\avgadmsv.ini
from the OLD server to the NEW one
  3. On both OLD and NEW server, please open AVG Admin Console and change the connection string in Shared settings for stations from the OLD server address to the NEW address
    • in the AVG Admin Console, open menu Tools - Shared settings for stations
    • in Remote Administration, please fill in the NEW connection string
      http://[NEW_server_name_or_IP]
  4. In case you are using the AVG Admin Server for update mirroring, please change the URL for updates on both servers as well
    • in Shared settings for stations, go to Update - URL
    • double-click on AVG Admin Server UpdateProxy and change the URL to
      http://[NEW_server_name_or_IP]:4158/avgupdate
  5. In the AVG Admin Console of the OLD server request synchronization
    • go to Stations view
    • highlight all stations (ctrl+A)
    • right-click on the stations and choose Synchronize settings
  6. The stations will now connect to the new server
    • if some stations are switched off, they will accept the new connection string on the first occasion
    • it is recommended to keep the OLD AVG Admin Server running until all stations connect to the NEW server
  7. Uninstall AVG 8.5 Remote Administration from the OLD server

This way, all stations will connect to the new server seamlessly and their configuration will remain the same.
